The London Heathrow is Europe’s biggest and busiest airport. It has five passenger terminals that are connected through transit trains. The terminal 5 was opened in the year 2008 and serves more than 50 destinations across the globe. The terminal has 66 gates, lounges, shops, restaurants and cafes. The distance between the airport and Central London is about 15 miles.
The Heathrow Express connects terminal 5 to the Paddington station once in every 15 minutes. The journey time from terminals 4 and 5 is slightly more than from terminals 2 and 3. The Heathrow Express operates free shuttle service between the terminal 5 and the central bus station. The central bus station has the National Express coach service that connects the Heathrow airport to Victoria station in Central London.
Heathrow Connect is the cheapest way of connecting from Heathrow to Central London. However the service is more time consuming. The service departs once in every 30 minutes and is not a direct service. The train station in terminal 5 is at the basement level. The service starts at terminal 5 and passes through the terminals 1, 2 and 3 junction and stops at few key stations before reaching the London Paddington in Central London. The service starts as early as 5 in the morning and runs till midnight.
The terminal 5 has a dedicated underground tube station which serves the Piccadilly line. The station is in the basement level and is located at a few minutes walking distance from the other two tube stations of the airport. The cost of single fare adult ticket from the terminal 5 to Central London is £5.70. This cost effective way of travelling from Heathrow to Central London takes up a journey time lesser than an hour. The first service of the day starts at 5.30 from terminal 5 and runs till 11.30 in the night.
While other travel options between the terminal 5 of Heathrow and Central London have a preset timetable, taxis and minicabs are the only way to access the city at your own time space. Taxis can be availed directly outside the terminal building and are the safest and most comfortable mode of transport.
